There is confusion here between a magnetic shift and a pole shift. Nothing much will happen when the magnetic shift occurs other then a reversal from N to S, to S to N, but if a pole shift happens and it's not controlled as I say it will be, then nothing will survive it as the earth spins quickly to a 90 degrees shift or more. The poles shifting is what is reducing our magnetic protection, once the poles shift our planet will go back to normal.
