TSA says yes to knives, no to shampoo
The Transportation Security Administration recently implemented a new policy that has many airline passengers scratching their heads. According to the TSA website, the agency will now "allow knives that do not lock, and have blades that are 2.36 inches or 6 centimeters or less in length and are less than 1/2 inch in width." RT's Liz Wahl has more.

Rush Limbaugh on McCain And Graham Opposing Rand Paul, Dining With Obama: 'Who Are They Siding With?'
3/9/13 - Rush Limbaugh took a call from a listener Friday that set him off on a rant against Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham for their opposition to Sen. Rand Paul's filibuster. The caller demanded that McCain and Graham make a public apology to Paul on the Senate floor, and Limbaugh agreed. "This incident, the Rand Paul filibuster," Limbaugh said, "has turned things upside down in Washington." He tied the older senators' backlash against the younger Paul to the dinner they had with President Obama Wednesday night. Limbaugh expressed his outrage over the fact that McCain and Graham were lobbing insults at Paul while at the same time sitting down to dine with the object of Paul's scorn. "Who are they siding with?" he asked.
Echoing Shepard Smith, who set off McCain by calling him "interventionist" Friday on Fox News, Limbaugh said, "There is a fear among McCain, Lindsey Graham, and others who favor an interventionist foreign policy." Specifically, he said, old guard neo-con Republicans fear that Rand Paul is following in his father's "isolationist" footsteps. "That's why they're calling Rand Paul a wacko," Limbaugh said, "because that's what they thought of Ron Paul."
Limbaugh appears to be using his massive platform to stoke the latest rift emerging in the Republican Party, between those who support Rand Paul's broad stand against military intervention and those, like McCain and Limbaugh, who would rather not disrupt the status quo.

CIA is a terrorist organization, Brennan suits it
An analyst says the appointment of John Brennan, the purported architect of Washington's drone operations, as the next CIA director comes as no surprise since the agency is in itself a "terrorist organization." The comment comes as the US Senate has confirmed John Brennan, the top White House adviser on the so-called war on terror, as the next director of the CIA. Last Thursday, the Senate voted 63-34 in favor of Brennan, overcoming Republican Sen. Rand Paul's filibuster of the nomination to demand an answer from the White House over its use of assassination drones. Washington uses assassination drones in several countries, claiming that they target "terrorists." According to witnesses, however, the attacks have mostly led to massive civilian casualties.
A synopsis posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website yesterday announces the DHS' intention to ink a five year deal with the Virginia-based firearms maker to provide gun replacement parts for the Federal Protective Service, ICE, Customs and Border Protection, "and other DHS agencies as needed." The Transport Security Administration has apologized following yet another incident involving a wheelchair bound child who became distressed when screeners stopped her and confiscated her stuffed toy. Three-year-old Lucy's parents questioned the screening procedure and were told, wrongly, by TSA workers that it was illegal to film at checkpoints. The Missouri couple took exception to TSA screeners at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, on what should have been a trip of a lifetime to Disney World for the young girl, who has Spina bifida.
Evolution of Technology & how technology functions as a living part of the universe
Date: 11-02-10
Host: George Noory
Guests: Kevin Kelly
In the middle two hours, former Executive Editor of Wired Magazine, Kevin Kelly and science writer Jim Gardner discussed how technology functions as a living part of the universe, and is evolving in ways that are almost biological. An ecosystem of technologies, which Kelly referred to as the "technium," could be thought of as a kind of super organism that is an extension of the evolutionary process, he explained. Gardner used the phrase "the virtual Cambrian" (during the Cambrian era life evolved from simple cells to more complex creatures) to describe our new era in which we are "birthing a new kind of kingdom of life," with our technology.
Kelly described future advances-- people won't carry separate devices like cell phones, but will interact with technology embedded in the environment that recognizes you and displays your preferred interface. In the next 10 years, he sees the Internet evolving to become less static, and in transportation, automatic driving will begin to be adopted. Google is already experimenting with self-driving cars, using video cameras, GPS, and various sensors.
As machines and robots become more autonomous, there may be dangers associated with their ability to self-replicate, or how they are incorporated into the military, Gardner pointed out. By creating technology that has a degree of autonomy, we are giving up some control, Kelly conceded, "but that's the only way we can get our creations to surprise us," he suggested.
