"Although officials said there had been no pressure for him to resign, the internet is already awash with speculation that there was a more sinister reason behind his decision." But this is new news to all of us -all the sinister speculation I've found is months to years old on the next pope or end of papal line, Cardinal Peter being Peter the Roman, etc. To me this sentence stands out as a SUGGESTION TO speculate and think in sinister ways. So if that is what's being suggested we need to look in the opposite direction for what may be coming up UNNOTICED and largely unreported (and un-speculated) on? Not already seen as sinister by groups of people spinning theories around?
