The Fluoride Fraud ~ Paul Connett
Dr. Paul Connett is a graduate of Cambridge University and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Dartmouth College. Since 1983 he taught chemistry at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY where he specialized in Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology but retired in 2006. Paul Connett has researched the literature on fluoride's toxicity and the fluoridation debate for 17 years. He helped found the Fluoride Action Network (FAN) and has given presentations on the dangers of fluoridation to legislative and research bodies around the world. This has included invited presentations to both the US EPA and the US National Research Council. With two other authors he published the book, "The Case Against Fluoride" in 2010. In the first hour, we discuss fluoride propaganda and science. We'll hear about the history of fluoride from dental research to economic interests, including the collusion between the U.S. government and fluoride producers. Paul talks about the dangerous effects of fluoridation ranging from arthritis to brain damage and what can exasperate its effects. Connett discusses the true science behind fluoridation and the CDC's and EPA's knowledge of it. Why is fluoridation being forced upon Americans and even being recommended for babies? In the second hour, Paul talks about the stigma behind those who oppose water fluoridation. Why aren't European scientists speaking up although America is poisoning its water supply? Later, we talk about solutions and what we can do to stop water fluoridation

The Truth About Flouride ~ Paul Connett
Date: 07-23-11
Host: Ian Punnett
Guests: Paul Connett
Paul Connett, Executive Director of the Fluoride Action Network, joined Ian to discuss the truth about fluoride and how this toxic chemical has no real health benefits whatsoever.
Dr. Paul Connett is a full and tenured professor of chemistry at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, where he has taught for 15 years. He obtained his undergraduate degree in natural sciences from Cambridge University and his Ph.D. in chemistry from Dartmouth College in the US. For the past 14 years he has researched waste management issues with a special emphasis on the dangers posed by incineration and the safer and more sustainable non-burn alternatives. Dr. Connett has researched fluoride over the last few years and has produced Fluoride: A Statement of Concern The official, "The Case Against Fluoride" book launching presentation at Whole Foods (Cherry Creek) in Denver, CO on Oct. 9th 2010 with co-author Paul Connett, PhD. This incredibly enlightening presentation outlines the true dangers of water fluoridation and it's toxic effects. On the eve of the new millennium, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), listed water fluoridation as one of the twentieth-century's 10 greatest public-health achievements. Yet according to the authors of this painstakingly researched expose of fluoridation's overall ineffectiveness and toxicity, endorsements such as these from the CDC and other health organizations are motivated more by face-saving politics than credible research. Fluoridation advocates who have previously branded detractors as conspiracy theorists and shills for junk science will be hard pressed to debunk the hundreds of peer-reviewed studies and sound scientific reasoning presented here. In demonstrating fluoridation's ineffectiveness, Dr. Paul Connett cites exhaustive evidence proving fluorides only benefits are topical, as in tooth brushing, as opposed to swallowing. But the case against fluorides alleged safety, even in small doses, is more alarming, with multiple studies showing fluorides probable complicity in lowered intelligence scores, thyroid dysfunction, hip fractures, and the ominously rising incidence of osteosarcoma in boys. The authors academic, hyperbole-free writing style serves them well in marshaling a series of facts that, all by themselves, expose fluoridation as a false panacea. It remains to be seen, however, whether the public-health community will give this landmark work due credit or continue to rubber stamp an outdated policy that, like bloodletting and trepanation, properly belongs on the scrap heap of sham medical interventions.

Biography:
Dr. Paul Connett is a graduate of Cambridge University and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Dartmouth College. Paul is the Executive Director of the Fluoride Action Network and has researched fluoride's toxicity for nearly 11 years. He has given invited presentations to the Fluoridation Forum in Ireland, the Japanese Society for Fluoride Research and the American College of Toxicology.
Wikipedia
Conspiracy theories involving fluoridation are common, and include claims that fluoridation was motivated by protecting the U.S. atomic bomb program from litigation, that (as famously parodied in the film Dr. Strangelove) it is part of a Communist or New World Order plot to take over the world, that it was pioneered by a German chemical company to make people submissive to those in power, that behind the scenes it is promoted by the sugary food or phosphate fertilizer or aluminum industries, or that it is a smokescreen to cover failure to provide dental care to the poor. One such theory is that fluoridation was a public-relations ruse sponsored by fluoride polluters such as the aluminum maker Alcoa and the Manhattan Project, with conspirators that included industrialist Andrew Mellon and the Mellon Institute's researcher Gerald J. Cox, the Kettering Laboratory of the University of Cincinnati, the Federal Security Agency's administrator Oscar R. Ewing, and public-relations strategist Edward Bernays. Specific antifluoridation arguments change to match the spirit of the time.
Opponents of fluoridation include Arvid Carlsson, Dr. Marcus Williams, Dr. Charles Gordon Heyd, researchers, dental and medical, alternative medical practitioners such as chiropractors, and health food enthusiasts; a few religious objectors, mostly Christian Scientists in the U.S.; and occasionally consumer groups and environmentalists. Organized political opposition has come from libertarians, the John Birch Society,[citation needed] and from groups like Green parties in the UK and New Zealand
