the Mexican sun dial, the middle class, one step forward, one hundred backwards. the middle class the benevolent class the upper class the barbarians the lower class the people. the middle class fights the people, while the barbarians watch. perhaps a king will make order out of chaos.
Good points, of course. What happens, however, when machines completely take over the production of everything and no workers are needed? How do we deal with this? It's getting close to this already. McLuhan, a Canadian by the way, said that when a new technology replaces an old one, the old one becomes an art form, pass-time or hobby, e.g. black-smithing, horse and carriage, walking ( displaced by cars etc). How about when all workers are displaced? At the moment, slave laborers in third world countries are our mindless machines. What happens when even they are dispensable?
A universal moral code is essentially what a true theory of human rights is. It is a set of rules governing human interaction- between individuals, individuals and groups and individuals or groups and government. See the truehumanrigths web site for what I mean by true human rights. Canada needs new government based on a new constitution that charges government with protection of everyone's rights.
